In the 1990s Abou was forcibly displaced from the streets of Korhogo to Bouaké along with other homeless mentally ill persons. This action was undertaken by the local authorities in order to clean up their streets. As a result of these displacements Bouaké became known as the 'carrefour des fous' - the crossroad of the mad.

Sitting in his home, Félicien recounts how he was chained and beaten by a traditional healer. The healer also cut him so that poultices could be applied to the wounds. Félicien later sought psychiatric care and is now working.
