Starting the morning at home

There’s something especially lovely about slow family mornings in autumn, and this documentary family photography session in Highbury captured exactly that feeling. I joined this wonderful family at home in North London as they eased into the day with their young twins — documenting the quiet, ordinary moments that so often become the most meaningful memories later on.

The morning began at home with getting ready, nursing on the sofa, breakfast around the kitchen table, and the familiar rhythm that comes with life with twins. One of the things I love most about documentary family photography is preserving these real interactions exactly as they are with nothing contrived or posed.

A walk to Highbury Fields

Once everyone was ready and the twins ensconced in their two-seater buggy, we headed out for a walk to Highbury Fields playground. The park was full of colour. The twins explored the playground together, climbed, ran through leaves, and enjoyed the freedom of being outdoors while their parents simply spent time with them. These are often the moments families want to remember most — genuine memories of this stage of life together.

As a London documentary family photographer, I always aim to create relaxed family photo sessions that feel natural and unhurried. Sessions like this one in Highbury are a reminder that meaningful family photographs don’t need elaborate locations or perfectly planned moments. Sometimes the most beautiful stories happen during an ordinary morning at home followed by a trip to the local park.
