London Prices for Family Photo Sessions: How to Choose the Right Package

If you're thinking about booking a family photoshoot in London, one of the first questions is usually: how much does it cost? The short answer? It varies. Quite a lot. Family photography isn’t one-size-fits-all - and neither is pricing. From quick mini shoots to multiple hours of coverage, understanding what you’re paying for makes it much easier to choose the right option for your family.

What Affects Family Photoshoot Prices in London?

Experience

A photographer’s experience plays a big role in cost. You’re not just paying for an hour with a camera - you’re paying for skills such as the ability to anticipate moments, work calmly with children, handle different lighting situations, and consistently deliver strong, well-composed and emotive images. I have years of experience in documentary photography, along with a master’s in documentary photography, which ensures that I can consistently deliver beautiful images. I have also been ranked as one of the top 10 family photographers in the UK.

What’s included in the price?

Some packages will include the session fee along with different combinations of products, such as digital images, albums or prints. It is worth checking closely what is included and whether that corresponds to what you would like to have from your session. My offering is a la carte, which means you pay for the session fee and then have complete flexibility as to what products you value and would like to invest in after your session.

Location

The location of your family photoshoot can also impact on cost. Some famous London locations may require additional fees or permits, and travel out of London may increase cost for London-based photographers. Many photographers are based in studios and offer posed sessions.

My sessions typically focus on time at home and at a local park or playground which is flexible, affordable and fun. I also often shoot at well-known London parks such as Alexandra Palace, Highgate Wood, Highbury Fields and Hampstead Heath. I also offer vacation and event photography on request.

  • Standard sessions (around 1-2 hour, limited images): £300–£600

Types of Family Photography

  • Studio Sessions - More controlled, often posed, and in a studio location.

  • Lifestyle Session - Sessions may be at home or in a studio but are typically posed.

  • Documentary Session - Relaxed, personal, and particularly suited to families with young children. These sessions focus less on directing and more on observing and capturing your family as you naturally are. My approach leans firmly toward this type of documentary storytelling. No stiff posing. No asking children to perform. Just honest moments and genuine interactions.

Beyond pricing, it is important to decide from a photographers work whether their style appeals to you, as well as whether you think you and your family will enjoy the experience. I see the session itself as being an experience which is unique and fun for families and a memorable occasion, along with the final images that I deliver.

Final Thoughts

A family photoshoot in London can cost anywhere from a few hundred pounds to well over a thousand, depending on the experience of the photographer and products you choose. The most important thing isn’t finding the cheapest package - it’s finding the right fit and experience for your family.

If you want an experienced photographer and a documentary-style session at home or on location, and prefer the flexibility of choosing your products afterwards, that’s exactly how I work. My sessions are not about documenting the “perfect family” - I don’t believe that exists. It’s about remembering what your family is like right now for the future.
